About Local History Hub
Local History Hub is a teacher-led, national initiative helping communities explore, share, and celebrate the histories that matter most to them. We work with schools, heritage organisations, and individuals to connect learning with place—and bring local stories into classrooms.
In 2025–26, we’re launching five pilot Hubs across the UK. Our first is based in Cardiff, where we’re building a vibrant network of schools, historical sites and community partners. The next step? Identifying and supporting where Local History Hub can grow next across Wales.
The Role
We’re looking for a strategic, well-connected heritage or education professional to become our National Heritage Advisor for Wales. This honorary role is ideal for someone who wants to stay engaged in the sector, contribute their expertise, and support meaningful, community-rooted growth.
Over the next 12 months, a key focus will be:
Supporting the launch of our Cardiff Hub
Helping identify and nurture new Local History Hubs in other parts of Wales
You’ll act as a national advisor, local connector, and sector advocate—supporting Local History Hub’s work to grow sustainably and responsively across Wales.
What You’ll Do
Offer strategic insight on Welsh heritage, education and community landscapes
Champion Local History Hub in national networks, groups or conversations
Support the Cardiff Hub by advising on partners, opportunities, and local context
Help identify areas across Wales where new Hubs could thrive
Share knowledge of policy or funding relevant to place-based education
Contribute (light-touch) to national planning or public messaging, where appropriate
What You’ll Gain
A national voice in shaping how local history is taught and celebrated
Flexible, meaningful engagement with no fixed hours or governance duties
Recognition across our website and communications
Direct links to a grassroots network of teachers and heritage professionals
The opportunity to support a new kind of education initiative from the ground up
