HUB LEAD: COMMUNITY

Lead locally. Connect people. Celebrate place.

Becoming a Community Lead with Local History Hub is a chance to shape something new, meaningful, and rooted in your own community.

As part of a growing, teacher-led national initiative, you'll take on a voluntary leadership role that helps build bridges between schools, heritage sites, and the people who call your area home.

Whether you're based in a museum, archive, community organisation or outreach role, this is a unique opportunity to grow professionally, develop your network, and champion the stories that matter most, those close to home.

Why Become A Community Lead?

As a Community Lead, you'll:

  • Take on a recognised leadership role in a national heritage and education initiative

  • Gain valuable CPD experience in community engagement, project planning, and partnership building

  • Work alongside educators to embed local history into schools in a way that's accessible, creative, and inspiring

  • Help shape and deliver major events like Local History Day 2026 on Wednesday 22nd April 2026

  • Celebrate and amplify local stories, places, and voices

  • Make a real impact on your community—by connecting people through shared history

This role is ideal for heritage professionals, outreach specialists, or community organisers who want to play a part in something collaborative, flexible, and full of potential.

Your Role as Community Lead

Community Leads work in partnership with a Schools Lead to co-run a local Hub. Together, you’ll act as a dynamic team helping schools and community groups connect meaningfully with their local heritage.

  • Help coordinate termly Hub meetings to share ideas, resources, and opportunities

  • Lead and support events like Local History Day, site visits, and collaborative projects

  • Act as an ambassador for your hub—raising awareness and celebrating local history

  • Offer support to educators delivering place-based learning

  • Share updates and materials via your hub’s page on localhistoryhub.org.uk

You’ll shape your Hub to reflect your community—its strengths, stories, and shared heritage.

You won’t be doing this alone. As a Community Lead, you’ll be supported by:
